34PICT3 Carb Rebuild: Cleaning & Reassembly

Got a gallon of carb & parts cleaner to let everything soak overnight and break up any crud. Then I removed each part, wiped it clean, and blew compressed air into all orifices.

Whoa, look what came in the mail! A German carb core!

This one has a good upper mounting hole for the return spring.

The lower mounting hole looks good on the throttle arm too, but the arm itself looks to be a different style. As it turns out these are not interchangeable, so I had to repair my old arm.

Had someone weld up my old arm. Good as new.

Much cleaner than before.

Reassembled choke vacuum diaphragm using new diaphragm in rebuild kit.

Arm on diaphragm should end up like this.

Plastic insert should be oriented to allow choke butterfly full range of motion.

Automatic choke assembly was reassembled. Will be dialed in later.

Reassembled repaired throttle arm.

Reassembled accelerator pump using new diaphragm in rebuild kit.

Will be dialed in later.

Reinstalled pilot (idle) jet and auxilliary (power) fuel jet.

Reinstalled air correction jet.

Reinstalled main jet and auxilliary jet.

Reinstalled bypass screw with new o-ring and new volume control screw. Both items came from rebuild kit.

Reinstalled electromagnetic cutoff valve.

I tested my old one and it seemed to still be in good shape. If for some reason it fails I still have the new one.

Reinstalled float and float pin, with new float pin retainer from rebuild kit.

Oriented correctly with bow in the retainer towards the front of the car.

Installed new float needle valve and washer from rebuild kit.

Washer is supposed to be .020" thick. This one is .018". Close enough.

Almost done...
